“Down in the streets there is violence. And there is work to be done…”

Eddy Grant released the song “Electric Avenue” in 1982.

Since then it has been used in a variety of different ways.  Here are some of my favorites:

Pineapple Express

This is one of my favorite movies.  I’ve seen it more times than I have fingers to count on, but I’m still not sick of it.  The intro features Dale Denton cruising in his car to Eddy Grant’s “Electric Avenue.”

Family Guy

In the episode “And the Weiner is…”, Meg tries to become a cheerleader, fails, and becomes a flag girl instead.  During the halftime of the football game when Meg marches out with her flag and gets pelted with rotten meat by the cool kids as they play the song “Electric Avenue” in marching band fashion.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a video for this, but in my search I found something equally if not more satisfying.

The Simpsons

In the episode “Sex, Pies, and Video Scrapes,” “Electric Avenue” plays during a montage while Homer and Ned Flanders hunt criminals.  Couldn’t get a clip of this one either.

Thank you Eddy Grant for creating this fantastic song.
