A Legend Passes

Rock Legend Ronnie James Dio Dies at age 67.

Today is a sad day for the music industry.  Ronnie James Dio died yesterday at age 67 after battling stomach cancer.  He announced his ailment last summer after finishing up a tour in Atlantic City with Black Sabbath.  His wife, Wendy Dio, said he died yesterday at 7:45 a.m.

Dio fought hard with seven chemotherapy treatments with hopes of performing again.  He first hit the scene in 1975 as the lead singer of Rainbow with guitarist Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple.

In 1980 he replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath and recorded “Heaven And Hell”, an album that is considered to be one of the best heavy metal albums ever recorded.

He’s known for his lyrics about the battle between good and evil, and his unmatched ability to wail vocal notes up and down the scale.  He even appears in the Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny film starring Jack Black:

R.I.P. Dio…you are a legend and you will be missed, but your music will live on and inspire us all for ages to come.
